Afrobeats star Seun Kuti has claimed that a wealthy Nigerian family suffered the loss of both a loved one and a large sum of money after turning to faith-based healing for terminal cancer.
In a viral video, Kuti recounted that the family sought spiritual intervention when doctors abroad reportedly declared the woman’s condition untreatable. The family reportedly took her to the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) camp, where prayers and spiritual rituals were conducted with assurances of recovery.
According to Kuti, despite the prayers, the woman died at the camp, leaving the family devastated. He also alleged that the family had spent about $250,000 in hopes of divine healing.
Kuti criticised faith healing for terminal illnesses, arguing that it can give false hope and leave families unprepared for loss. He further alleged that after her death, Pastor Enoch Adeboye instructed the family to stop mourning and promised to pray for her resurrection, asking them to kneel beside the body while he prayed privately.
Kuti recounted:
“Doctors abroad said nothing could be done, but the woman’s family hoped Adeboye could heal her in Nigeria. They spent $250,000, but she died inside Redeem Camp. Adeboye prayed for an hour from a balcony, then told them God had called her and that they should go home.”
The musician’s account has sparked online debate about the role of faith healing in serious medical conditions and the potential consequences of relying solely on spiritual interventions.
