Shettima Returns to Abuja After COP30 in Brazil

Vice President Kashim Shettima returned to Abuja on Sunday after leading Nigeria’s delegation to the UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém, Brazil.

At the conference, Shettima reaffirmed Nigeria’s climate leadership and commitment to a green transition, delivering the nation’s statement titled “The Rational Soul of Nature”. He urged world leaders to:

  • Recognize the economic value of nature.
  • Provide predictable, equitable, and accessible funding for environmental protection and restoration.

On the sidelines, Shettima held bilateral meetings on carbon market cooperation, aiming to secure $2.5–3 billion annually in carbon finance to support Nigeria’s transition to a low-carbon economy.

The COP30 summit was hosted by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and attended by global leaders, development partners, and business executives.
