Singer Oladips Alleges EFCC Collected N10 Million for His Release

Popular Nigerian rapper, Oladips, has made serious allegations against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), claiming the anti-graft agency demanded and received N10 million to secure his freedom following an arrest last year.

The artist made these claims during a recent interview on the “Trending” podcast, nearly a year after he was detained in a November 2024 midnight raid on his estate.

Oladips, who spent five days in EFCC custody, stated that a thorough investigation yielded no evidence of wrongdoing against him. He expressed frustration that he was still forced to pay for his release.

“I’m not even supposed to be there first of all,” he said. “Why did I spend four to five days there when you people didn’t find anything on me, not even a single thing? And they still collected N10 million from me before they released me.”

The singer described the detention conditions as deplorable, alleging that detainees were packed “like sardines” and fed poor-quality food. He credited fellow musician Zlatan Ibile, whom he described as family, for sending him decent meals during his incarceration.

When asked by the interviewer if he would consider legal action against the EFCC, Oladips responded with resignation, questioning his own influence to challenge a powerful government institution.

“Who is my father?” he replied. “At the end of the day, who is my father? It’s just me and my truth… If they are watching this, they know that I’m saying the truth. They collected money from me before they released me. They didn’t find anything on me. So, what was the money for?”

He concluded by attributing the entire ordeal to the systemic challenges within the country, lamenting, “It’s just Nigeria. Nigeria just happened to me.”

As of the time of reporting, the EFCC has not issued an official response to these allegations.
