Bengaluru, November 29, 2025: As the leadership tussle between Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar continues, Home Minister G Parameshwara has indicated that he too has been considered by some as a potential Chief Minister candidate, while emphasizing that the Congress high command will resolve the issue.
In an interaction with ANI, Parameshwara said,
“Somebody wants DK Shivakumar as chief minister, somebody wants Siddaramaiah to continue, and somebody wants me to be the chief minister… You cannot stop the aspirations of the people. All these developments are definitely watched by the high command. They’ll resolve them.”
Meanwhile, Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar held a breakfast meeting on Saturday to ease tensions within the state leadership. Following the meeting, Shivakumar is set to travel to Delhi to meet the Congress high command, including Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, while Siddaramaiah reaffirmed his willingness to abide by the party’s decision.
Siddaramaiah stated,
“The high command has called both of us… I will accept whatever the high command says… There is no change in my stand.”
Shivakumar reiterated his loyalty to the party, noting that any leadership decision would come from the high command.
The tussle has been fueled by a power-sharing agreement of 2023, under which Shivakumar was expected to take over as CM after 2.5 years. Both leaders’ loyalists are lobbying for their respective claims to the state’s top post. The Congress strategy group is expected to deliberate the crisis ahead of the winter session of Parliament on November 30, after which the high command’s decision will likely be communicated.
