Southwest Summit: Gov. Adeleke Decries Politicisation of Federal Projects

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has expressed concern over the increasing politicisation of federal projects, warning that it undermines intergovernmental relations in the Southwest, particularly in states not governed by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking in Akure during the Southwest Stakeholders’ Dialogue Meeting—hosted by the DAWN Commission in collaboration with Afenifere and represented by his deputy, Kola Adewusi—Adeleke said Osun, despite being the ancestral home of the Federal Government head, faces “unwarranted political hostilities.”

He alleged that many federal initiatives are being routed through party structures instead of official state institutions, weakening cooperative federalism and threatening democracy, peace, and national unity. Adeleke highlighted security and local government management in Osun as examples of federal interference.

Dr. Akin Onigbinde, Chairman of the Summit Steering Committee, urged institutionalisation of the summit within Southwest Governors’ Cabinets to ensure sustained citizen–government dialogue. Dr. Seye Oyeleye, DG of DAWN Commission, called for stronger regional collaboration to drive innovation, industrialisation, and infrastructure growth.

Former Archbishop, Most Rev. (Rtd.) Ayo Ladigbolu, advised patience with ongoing economic reforms, highlighting potential benefits such as increased revenue, improved electricity supply, cleaner energy, and reduced dependence on imported petroleum.
