In a tragic incident, terrorists have killed Ibrahim Dalhatu Tafoki, a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer, in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State, raising doubts about the effectiveness of ongoing peace talks with armed groups in the region.
SaharaReporters learned that Ibrahim Tafoki, who was traveling on a motorcycle, was ambushed by the assailants on Tuesday evening along the Funtua–Tafoki road. The attackers killed him and stole his motorcycle.
This attack took place in an area that had been the focus of recent peace negotiations between government mediators and armed bandit groups, aimed at bringing an end to the violence that has plagued the region for years.
Ibrahim Tafoki was the younger brother of Rt. Hon. Shehu Dalhatu Tafoki, a Member of the House of Representatives representing the Kankara–Faskari–Sabua Federal Constituency. He was also the son of Alhaji Dalhatu Tafoki, a prominent traditional leader in the area.
Bakatsine, a conflict-monitoring source, confirmed the incident on Wednesday, noting that the attack highlights the fragile nature of the ongoing peace process in Faskari LGA. It also raises serious concerns about the ability of the current peace initiatives to bring lasting stability to the region.
Katsina State remains one of the hotspots for banditry in Nigeria’s North-West, with frequent attacks on travelers, farmers, and rural communities. Despite this, authorities continue to push for dialogue as a potential solution to the violence.
At the time of reporting, neither the Katsina State Government nor security agencies had issued an official statement on the killing.
