Teyana Taylor is still glowing after her big night at the 83rd Annual Golden Globe Awards, where she won her first-ever Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Perfidia Beverly Hills in One Battle After Another.
A Career-Defining Moment for Teyana Taylor
The 35-year-old actress, who has been performing since age 15, described the award as a confirmation of her journey and hard work. Speaking to reporters in the press room after her win, Taylor said:
“I’ve been doing it since I was 15 years old, you know? And what this was for me was God reminded me that the weight is not punishment, it’s preparation for what’s already written.”
Taylor’s excitement was palpable as she added, “So my name being written on that card and the engraving — this is just mind-blowing. I’m still gagging right now. I’m just like, oh, my God. I’m so happy. I’m filled with so much gratitude. I don’t take any of this for granted. I don’t take any of it at all.”
Emotional Acceptance Speech
During her acceptance speech, Taylor thanked her family and her “tribe” of loved ones, calling them her grounding force. She also honored the director and creative team behind One Battle After Another:
“To Paul Thomas Anderson, thank you for your vision, your trust, and your brilliance. My gratitude is endless. I love you, we love you, and thank you so much for holding space for me and our entire cast,” she said.
Taylor concluded her speech with an empowering message for young women of color:
“Our softness is not a liability. Our depth is not too much. Our light does not need permission to shine. We belong in every room we walk into. Our voices matter and our dreams deserve space.”
Social Media Reaction and Personal Reflection
Ahead of the Globes, Taylor shared her excitement with fans on Instagram, writing:
“This one means everything to the little girl from Harlem with a big dream. Father God, in the name of Jesus, I thank you.”
She also expressed gratitude for her peers in Hollywood:
“I’ve been a SAG member for nearly 20 years, and to receive my first SAG Award nomination this morning is a true full circle moment! One that means more than I can put into words. I’m still pinching myself. I poured my whole heart into this role, and to be seen and recognized by my peers is deeply humbling.”
