Teyana Taylor is blending motherhood, acting, and a little bit of internet culture—and she says her daughters would be proud. The 34-year-old musician-turned-actress recently revealed that she taught her castmates on Hulu’s hit legal drama All’s Fair some viral slang, inspired by her daughter.
Passing Down the Lingo
Speaking exclusively with PEOPLE at the 2025 CFDA Fashion Awards on November 3, Taylor explained how she shared trendy gestures and phrases with her star-studded cast, which includes Kim Kardashian, Glenn Close, Naomi Watts, Sarah Paulson, and Niecy Nash-Betts.
“Even though I’m an old soul, I taught them which [gesture] is ‘clock it’ and ‘ate it,’” Taylor shared, referring to the hand gestures popularized on social media. She added, “I’m proud of myself. I feel like my daughter would’ve been proud because she taught me that, so I taught them that.”
Taylor is mom to daughters Rue Rose, 5, and Iman ‘Junie’ Tayla, 9, whom she shares with her ex-husband, Iman Shumpert. The actress credits her children with keeping her connected to the latest trends and social media slang.
Milan’s Role on All’s Fair
On All’s Fair, Taylor portrays Milan, a young aspiring lawyer and mentee to Kardashian’s character, Allura Grant. Taylor described Milan as the “baby of the group” who is navigating her way through the firm while earning her stripes.
“Milan is figuring out how to navigate it,” Taylor told PEOPLE in a previous interview. “Allura is gracious enough to help her navigate, even though Milan has made mistakes. I think it’s important because it shows community and shows we won’t let men come between that community.”
The character also has a juicy subplot: Milan is secretly having an affair with Allura’s ex, adding layers of drama to the series.
Behind-the-Scenes Bonding
Taylor revealed that the cast forged a close bond before filming began. Kardashian shared that a group dinner set the tone for their on-screen chemistry.
“We all had dinner, talked s—, had some drinks and really just got to know each other on a personal level,” Kardashian said. This camaraderie has translated into All’s Fair’s compelling ensemble performances and dynamic storytelling.
All’s Fair Streaming on Hulu
Currently streaming on Hulu, All’s Fair has become a fan favorite for its mix of legal drama, humor, and strong female leads. Taylor’s contribution—both on and off-screen—has highlighted her personality, creativity, and connection to the younger generation, bridging the gap between millennial and Gen Z audiences.
By teaching her viral slang to her castmates, Taylor not only brings authenticity to her character but also showcases the influence of parenting on her creative life. Her daughters Rue Rose and Junie can take pride in knowing they helped shape the dialogue of a major television series.
