‘Those Responsible Will Not Be Spared’: Rajnath Singh on Red Fort Blast in Delhi

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday assured the nation that those responsible for the car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort would be held accountable and would not escape justice. The statement came a day after the high-intensity blast that claimed the lives of 13 people and injured at least 21 others, shaking the heart of the national capital.

Speaking at an event organized by the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA), Singh emphasized that the country’s top investigative agencies were conducting a “swift and thorough inquiry” into the incident. “I wish to assure my fellow citizens that the country’s leading investigative agencies are conducting a swift and thorough inquiry into the incident. The findings of the investigation will soon be made public,” he said. He added, “I want to firmly assure the nation that those responsible for this tragedy will be brought to justice and will not be spared under any circumstances.”

Singh also extended his condolences to the families of the deceased. “I pray to God to grant strength and solace to the bereaved families in this hour of deep grief,” he said, acknowledging the profound shock and sorrow that had gripped Delhi following the blast.

Blast Details and Immediate Response

The explosion occurred on Monday evening on an arterial road near the historic Red Fort, one of India’s most iconic landmarks. Eyewitnesses described a scene of chaos and devastation, with vehicles damaged, nearby structures rattled, and panic spreading through one of Delhi’s most crowded neighborhoods.

Authorities immediately sealed off the area, evacuated visitors, and dispatched teams from the Special Cell, Crime Branch, and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL). Delhi Police placed the city on high alert, increasing security at airports, railway stations, bus terminals, and other sensitive locations. Real-time monitoring of CCTV footage, intensified vehicle checks, and coordinated intelligence operations became the cornerstone of the security response.

The blast was reported to have originated from a Hyundai i20 car that was slowly moving near a traffic signal before detonating. The intensity of the explosion suggested the involvement of high-grade explosives, with investigators exploring whether the blast was triggered intentionally or by an accidental detonation while transporting explosive material.

Link to Kashmir-Based Doctor and Faridabad Module

Authorities have traced the car to a Kashmir-based doctor, identified as Dr. Umar Un Nabi, who is suspected to have ties to a terror module connected to a massive seizure of explosive materials in Faridabad, Haryana. Preliminary investigations suggest that Dr. Umar may have been driving the car at the time of the blast and that the incident could be linked to the arrest of other individuals in the same terror module, including doctors Muzammil Shakil and Adil Ahmed.

The Faridabad module had previously led to the discovery of nearly 2,900 kilograms of ammonium nitrate and other bomb-making materials in multiple locations, raising concerns about the scale and sophistication of the operation. The connection between the Delhi blast and the Faridabad seizures underscores the operational reach of the suspected network and its potential threat to urban centers.

Investigation Underway

Delhi Police have registered an FIR under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) along with sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) related to murder and attempt to murder, as well as provisions of the Explosives Act. Investigators are meticulously tracing the ownership trail of the car, which changed hands multiple times before coming under Dr. Umar’s possession.

Two prior owners, identified as Salman and Devender, have been detained for questioning. Officials are also examining forensic evidence from the site, including explosive residues, to determine the precise nature and composition of the materials used in the blast.

The Defence Minister’s assurance signals a broader government intent to convey that terrorism, whether urban or cross-border, will be met with swift, decisive, and uncompromising action. Security agencies across Delhi continue to maintain high vigilance, monitoring key transport hubs, crowded areas, and sensitive infrastructure while coordinating with intelligence networks for rapid response.

Public Impact and Vigilance

The Red Fort blast has left the public shaken, highlighting vulnerabilities in urban security and the importance of community cooperation. Authorities have urged citizens to remain alert, report suspicious activity, and adhere to security advisories to ensure public safety.

The city remains in mourning for the victims, including individuals from various parts of India who were at work, commuting, or visiting the area at the time of the blast. Families are grappling with the sudden loss and trauma, while emergency services continue to provide care for the injured.

Conclusion

The Red Fort explosion stands as one of the most significant security incidents in Delhi in recent times, bringing national attention to both urban terrorism threats and the operational capabilities of terror networks. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s statement serves as a strong assurance to citizens that the government is committed to protecting national security, conducting a thorough investigation, and ensuring that justice is delivered swiftly and comprehensively.

As investigative agencies continue to unravel the links between the Delhi blast and the Faridabad terror module, the nation remains united in grief and vigilance, underscoring the critical role of coordinated security measures, intelligence operations, and public awareness in preventing future attacks.
