The Federal Government, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has officially designated the Kogo Forest Reserve in Katsina State as Nigeria’s newest national park.
The government described the move as a significant step toward advancing environmental protection and sustainable development under President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
Announced by the Ministry of Environment, the declaration reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting natural ecosystems and promoting climate resilience, amid challenges such as deforestation, biodiversity loss, and climate change.
Minister of Environment Balarabe Abbas Lawal formally received the Kogo Forest Reserve from Katsina State Governor Dr. Dikko Umaru Radda, transferring management of the reserve to the National Park Service.
The National Park Service has already deployed essential resources to the park, including vehicles, equipment, and modern conservation technologies, to ensure effective protection and management.
The government emphasized that the designation is expected to strengthen biodiversity conservation while preserving Nigeria’s natural heritage for future generations, aligning with broader environmental reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
