President Bola Tinubu has affirmed that Nigeria will not be intimidated by international pressure, following threats from US President Donald Trump over alleged attacks on Christians in the country.
Tinubu made the statement on his verified X account on Friday, stressing that Nigeria will continue to assert itself on the global stage with “calm, clarity, and a strong sense of purpose.”
Addressing the nation’s security challenges, the President acknowledged that terrorism has been a persistent issue for nearly two decades but assured Nigerians that his administration is resolute in overcoming it.
“We are indeed faced with terrorism—a challenge Nigeria has faced for almost two decades, and we will not back down. We will decisively defeat terrorism and claim victory in this battle,” Tinubu said. “Security is non-negotiable, and we will never compromise on this principle. With unwavering courage and a steadfast commitment to the rule of law, we will prevail.”
He urged Nigeria’s international partners to continue their support, emphasizing that collaboration is essential to sustaining the progress already achieved in national security.
The remarks follow threats by US President Donald Trump, who reportedly instructed the Defence Department to prepare for possible military action in Nigeria if attacks on Christians continue. Trump had earlier designated Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC), citing allegations of widespread persecution and genocide against Christians.
