Tinubu Presidency Plans N6.1Billion for Foreign Trips in 2026

The 2026 Nigerian budget shows that President Bola Tinubu is set to spend N6.1 billion on international travel, according to the budget breakdown under State House operations – President. In addition, N873 million is earmarked for his local trips.

Vice President Kashim Shettima will spend N1.3 billion on foreign travel, bringing the combined total for the presidency’s international trips to N7.4 billion for the year.

President Tinubu recently departed Lagos for Europe and is expected to attend the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Summit 2026, an annual event bringing together global leaders to discuss sustainable development.

By comparison, the presidency spent N36.3 billion on international travel and N46.9 billion on local travel in 2024, totaling N83 billion, sparking public concern amid Nigeria’s financial challenges. Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga and Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Maitama Tuggar have defended the travels, highlighting their importance for diplomacy and global engagement.
