Apro-Tinubu, a political support group, distributed rice, noodles, spaghetti, and seasoning cubes to vulnerable residents in Yola, Adamawa State, in what appears to be an early attempt to garner support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
A local resident told SaharaReporters that the distribution took place on Thursday, New Year’s Day, and was led by Hon. Dahiru Hammandikko, also known as Dan Kade Adamawa, who serves as the Executive Director of Agricultural Services at the Upper Benue River Basin Development Authority.
The exercise, organised by political groups loyal to President Bola Tinubu, specifically targeted underprivileged members of the community. “It was in my immediate community. The beneficiaries are underprivileged people,” the resident said.
The distribution comes amid growing public frustration over worsening security and economic conditions in Nigeria. On the same day, several violent incidents were reported across the country. For example, a police station in Ipele, Ondo State, was attacked and set ablaze by suspected terrorists, forcing residents to flee. Similarly, suspected Fulani militia attacked the Bum community in Plateau State, killing at least seven people, injuring several others, and destroying homes during New Year celebrations.
Despite the troubling security situation, political actors in Adamawa appear to be using food distributions as a strategy to strengthen local support in anticipation of the 2027 elections.
