Tinubu’s Agricultural Policies Yielding Results, Kalu Urges Farmers to Lead Revolution

The Federal Government has affirmed that President Bola Tinubu’s agricultural policies are beginning to deliver tangible results nationwide.

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, made the statement while delivering the opening address at the General Assembly of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) in Abuja on Thursday.

Kalu highlighted that policy measures such as the removal of fuel subsidies in 2023 have redirected billions of naira toward agricultural mechanization, distribution of inputs, and rural infrastructure development. He further noted that initiatives like the national state of emergency on food security, the Agricultural Promotion Policy (APP), and the Presidential Fertilizer Initiative (PFI) are now producing visible results in key regions.

He urged farmers to drive an agricultural revolution through local processing and export-oriented production, emphasizing that such efforts would accelerate economic diversification. “We have the resources. We have a policy environment. What we need is a unified will,” Kalu said, stressing that agriculture is critical to Nigeria’s future and national cohesion.

Also speaking, AFAN National President Dr. Farouk Rabiu-Mudi said the theme of the assembly, “Empowering Farmers, Fostering Collaboration,” reflected the body’s core mission of aligning agricultural policies with farmers’ realities. He identified challenges in the sector, including weak institutional coordination, limited access to finance and inputs, inadequate extension services, and low adoption of innovation.
