Toronto-Delhi Air India Flight Receives Bomb Threat, Lands Safely in Delhi

New Delhi: An Air India flight operating from Toronto to Delhi received a bomb threat on Thursday but landed safely in the national capital, authorities confirmed. The Boeing 777 aircraft, operating as flight AI188, completed its journey without incident, and all passengers and crew disembarked safely.

According to sources, the Delhi Police received a message early Thursday morning claiming a bomb threat aboard the flight. In response, the airport authorities immediately constituted the Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport to evaluate the situation. The threat was assessed as “non-specific,” prompting precautionary security measures rather than any emergency diversion.

An Air India spokesperson said the crew on board followed all established security protocols and drills to ensure passenger safety. “A security alert was communicated regarding flight AI188 during its cruise from Toronto to Delhi. The onboard crew carried out all the laid-down security drills, keeping passenger safety and security as top priority. The flight has landed safely in Delhi and has been parked for the mandatory security checks as per protocol,” the spokesperson added.

The flight touched down at Delhi airport at approximately 3:40 pm. The duration of the Toronto-Delhi route, as per flight tracking data from Flightradar24, was slightly over 15 hours.

Enhanced security protocols remain in place at airports nationwide, particularly in the wake of the November 10 Red Fort blast in Delhi, which killed at least 13 people and injured several others. Secondary screening measures, including compulsory ladder point checks for all flights, have been implemented to ensure heightened vigilance.

Authorities confirmed that AI188 underwent thorough security checks upon landing, and there were no reported disruptions to airport operations. Passengers and crew were escorted safely and efficiently, reflecting the coordinated response of the airline, airport security, and police teams.

This incident comes amid heightened security alerts across India following a high-intensity car blast near Gate Number 1 of the Red Fort Metro station earlier this week, which has prompted stricter monitoring of air travel and public spaces in the capital.

The timely and effective response by airline and airport authorities ensured that the situation was managed without endangering lives, and no explosives or suspicious items were found on board the flight. The Delhi Police continues to monitor security threats closely and has urged travelers to cooperate with all necessary screening measures.
