PARIS — French energy giant TotalEnergies has signed a 10-year agreement to supply renewable electricity to Data4, a European data centre operator, for its facilities in Spain, the company announced on Tuesday.
Starting in January 2026, TotalEnergies will deliver 610 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of clean power annually from a portfolio of new wind and solar farms being developed across Spain, the company said in a statement.
“This agreement confirms Data4’s commitment to renewable energy, which is especially strategic as the race for artificial intelligence intensifies,” said François Sterin, Chief Financial Officer of Data4. “We expect the energy capacity required for all data centres in Spain to triple by 2030.”
The deal highlights how surging demand for AI infrastructure is driving partnerships between renewable energy producers and data centre operators, as the latter seek to meet both sustainability goals and soaring power needs.
TotalEnergies CEO Patrick Pouyanné noted at the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) on Monday that expanding investments in renewable electricity helps the company secure more stable and predictable revenue streams, less exposed to the volatility of oil and gas markets.
