Tragic Incident in Bihar: Woman and Two Children Die After Allegedly Consuming Pesticides; One-Year-Old Son in Critical Condition

Buxar, Bihar, November 12, 2025: A harrowing incident has shaken Buxar district after a 30-year-old woman, Sabita Devi, and two of her children died following the alleged consumption of pesticides in their home. The incident, which occurred in the Purab Tola locality under the Naya Bhojpur police station limits, has left the local community in shock, while a one-year-old boy from the same family remains critically ill and has been transferred to Patna for advanced medical care.

According to senior police officials, the incident unfolded following a domestic altercation between Sabita Devi and her husband, Sunil Kumar, a mason by profession. In the aftermath of the dispute, Sabita is suspected to have consumed pesticides herself and, tragically, allegedly administered the same to her three children: seven-year-old Jyoti, five-year-old Akash, and one-year-old Vikash.

Three of the family members—Sabita, Jyoti, and Akash—were declared dead upon arrival at Buxar Sadar Hospital. The youngest child, Vikash, survived the initial exposure but was in a critical condition, prompting his referral to a specialized medical facility in Patna. “After an altercation with her husband, 30-year-old Sabita Devi was suspected of having consumed pesticides in her residence, and she allegedly gave pesticides to her children. Three of them died, and one child is battling for his life,” a senior police officer said.

Hospital officials at Buxar Sadar Hospital confirmed the ingestion of pesticides and stated that the deceased were brought dead. They added that immediate medical attention was provided to the one-year-old, but his condition necessitated transfer to a larger hospital equipped to handle severe poisoning cases.

Sunil Kumar, the husband of Sabita, expressed his grief and shock to reporters, highlighting that Sabita was his third wife. He recounted that family members rushed to a nearby hospital when the health of Sabita and the children rapidly deteriorated on Tuesday evening, but despite efforts, three members were declared dead upon arrival at Buxar Sadar Hospital.

The police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. A team has been dispatched to the hospital to collect statements and examine evidence to determine the exact chain of events leading up to the tragedy. Officials are exploring all angles, including the possibility of intentional poisoning and any underlying domestic disputes that may have contributed to this fatal outcome.

This incident is a grim reminder of the dangers posed by easy access to toxic substances in households and underscores the urgent need for awareness regarding the safe storage of hazardous chemicals. The local administration is expected to monitor the case closely and provide support to the surviving child while ensuring that a thorough inquiry is conducted.

The Buxar tragedy has sent shockwaves across the community, with neighbors and residents expressing deep sorrow over the loss of life. Authorities have appealed to local residents to exercise caution with pesticides and other toxic substances and to seek immediate medical attention in case of accidental or intentional ingestion.

As investigations continue, attention will remain focused on the surviving infant, Vikash, whose condition remains fragile, and on understanding the full context of the family dynamics and circumstances that led to this heartbreaking incident.
