Tragic Kite Accident in Indore Claims Life; Infant Suffers Thumb Injury at MY Hospital

Indore, January 12, 2026: A tragic accident occurred in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, as a 45-year-old man lost his life after a kite string slit his throat while he was riding his bike. The victim has been identified as Raghuveer Dhakar. The incident reportedly took place between Khajrana Chowk and Bengali Chowk.

According to SHO Manish Lodha of Tilak Nagar Police Station, authorities were immediately informed and rushed to the hospital, but the man could not be saved. “We received information that a bike rider has died after his throat was slit by a kite string. The name given is Raghuveer Dhakar, 45 years old. The incident occurred between Khajrana Chowk and Bengali Chowk,” he said. Further details about the incident and ongoing investigation are awaited.

The accident highlights the hidden dangers of kite flying during festivals, when sharp kite strings, often coated with glass or chemicals, pose a serious risk to pedestrians, bikers, and animals. Authorities have previously warned residents to exercise caution, especially near busy roads and crowded areas.

Infant Suffers Thumb Injury Due to Medical Negligence

In a separate incident at the government-run Maharaja Yashwant Rao (MY) Hospital in Indore, a one-and-a-quarter-month-old infant suffered a severe injury when a nurse allegedly severed the child’s thumb while attempting to remove a venflon from the hand. The infant had been admitted for pneumonia.

The child was immediately shifted to the Super Speciality Hospital, where surgeons from MGM Medical Collegeperformed successful surgery to reattach the thumb. Officials confirmed that the child’s health is now stable.

Following the incident, Nursing Officer Arti Kshetri was suspended, and instructions were given to withhold the salaries of three other nurses for one month.

Dr Arvind Ghanghoria, Dean of MGM Medical College, said, “As soon as the matter came to my notice, I instructed the Superintendent of MY Hospital to constitute an inquiry committee to probe the matter and submit a report within 24 hours. A nurse went to remove a venflon from the infant’s hand, which was secured with dynaplast adhesive bandage, and during this process, the child’s thumb was severed. The infant was shifted immediately to Super Speciality Hospital, where doctors successfully reattached the thumb. The child’s condition is now fine.”

These two incidents underscore public safety concerns in Indore—one involving festive hazards on city roads, and the other highlighting critical lapses in hospital care. Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution during kite festivals, particularly near traffic, and have stressed the need for strict monitoring of medical procedures to prevent avoidable mishaps.

The families of both victims are awaiting updates—the first in a police investigation, and the second regarding disciplinary and preventive measures in the hospital.
