Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) successfully thwarted an early-morning infiltration attempt by terrorists from the Mandara Mountains into Bitta, killing a notorious Boko Haram/ISWAP commander and several insurgents, a major blow to the militants’ operational capabilities.
A military source, who requested anonymity, said the encounter occurred around 0030 hours on 18 December 2025. Using advanced surveillance technology, the troops detected the terrorists’ advance and allowed them to enter an effective engagement range before launching coordinated attacks.
“Several insurgents, including a top commander and his cameraman, were neutralised,” the source said.
As the surviving terrorists attempted to flee, follow-on airstrikes targeted their escape routes. Troops recovered significant equipment, including AK-47 rifles, PKT machine guns, bandoliers, radios, mobile phones, motorcycles, bicycles, and a camcorder. Blood trails and shallow graves suggested additional insurgent casualties.
“The morale and fighting efficiency of our troops remain high as operations continue to deny terrorists freedom of action and ensure community safety,” the source added.
This operation underscores the Nigerian military’s continued efforts to counter Boko Haram/ISWAP threats and protect communities in the northeastern region.
