Troops Thwart FCT Kidnap Plot, Maintain Nationwide Offensive — Army

The Nigerian Army says its troops have achieved fresh operational breakthroughs across multiple regions, including foiling a major kidnap attempt in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and disrupting terrorist activities in the North-West, North-East, and North-Central within the last 24 hours.

A reliable military source informed the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Tuesday that troops under Operation FANSAN YAMMA carried out coordinated operations in Kebbi, Katsina, and Sokoto States, successfully dislodging criminal elements and preventing further attacks.

According to the source, troops of 1 Battalion (Reconnaissance) raided Sakwabe Forest near Bachaka in Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State, forcing terrorists to abandon their hideout. Recovered items included ammunition, clothing, and communication gadgets.

Troops stationed at FOB Kaoje also responded to a distress call at Bakin Ruwa after police apprehended three suspected terrorists. Military patrols in the area have since been intensified due to concerns about possible reprisal attacks by accomplices.

In Katsina, personnel of 17 Brigade were deployed to the Kankara–Mabai Road following an attack in which terrorists killed a commercial driver. Soldiers evacuated passengers and secured their vehicle. The brigade also rescued a kidnapped victim during a fighting patrol at Unguwan Nayaya.

Operations in Sokoto saw troops of 8 Division Garrison engage terrorists at Chacho village in Wurno Local Government Area, evacuating a civilian who sustained gunshot injuries to UDUTH Sokoto for treatment.

The most significant development, however, occurred in the FCT. Troops of 176 Guards Battalion, working in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Anti-Kidnapping Unit, foiled an attempted mass abduction targeting communities in Kwali and Gwagwalada Area Councils. Acting on intelligence and intercepted communications, the security team ambushed the syndicate at Gada-Biu on December 1, killing one suspect and recovering an AK-47 rifle with ammunition.

Elsewhere, troops under Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) conducted clearance operations in parts of Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State. During the operation, insurgents fled on sighting the soldiers, leaving behind a pump-action gun, a Dane gun, and three motorcycles. A soldier was also arrested in Kashimbila for allegedly communicating with a wanted insurgent commander known as “Abam.”

Across all operational theatres, troops have continued to maintain dominance through aggressive patrols, ambushes, and fighting operations.

“The security forces remain committed to sustaining the pressure until terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping are decisively defeated,” the military source said.
