Washington, D.C. – November 14, 2025 – United States President Donald Trump has publicly urged the Department of Justice to investigate former President Bill Clinton for his alleged ties to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, in the latest development of an enduring political and legal controversy. The request comes amid renewed scrutiny of Trump’s own connections to Epstein following the release of previously unseen emails.
Trump Frames Investigation as Democratic ‘Hoax’
On Friday, Trump took to social media to dismiss questions about his own relationship with Epstein as a “Democratic hoax”, comparing the emails to the Russia investigation during his 2016 presidential campaign. He argued that Democrats and certain financial institutions had closer ties to Epstein than he did, framing Clinton and others as the central figures in what he called “Epstein’s Democratic problem.”
“Epstein was a Democrat, and he is the Democrat’s problem, not the Republican’s problem! Don’t waste your time with Trump. I have a country to run!” Trump wrote.
Trump specifically requested that Attorney General Pam Bondi launch a probe into Clinton, his former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, venture capitalist Reid Hoffman, and the bank JPMorgan Chase. Bondi confirmed via social media that she assigned U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton to the investigation, emphasizing that the Department of Justice would act with “urgency and integrity.”
Newly Released Emails Raise Questions About Trump
The call for investigation comes shortly after the House of Representatives reconvened following the longest government shutdown in U.S. history. Lawmakers released dozens of emails from Epstein, his convicted accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell, and writer Michael Wolff. Some of the messages referenced Trump directly, suggesting he was aware of Epstein’s sexual relationships.
One email reportedly stated:
“I want you to realize that that dog that hasn’t barked is Trump… [Victim] spent hours at my house with him.”
Despite this, the White House quickly dismissed the emails as selectively edited and part of a Democratic smear campaign. Later, the Republican leadership released 20,000 additional emails, some further implicating Trump, intensifying the controversy.
Background on Epstein and Ongoing Legal Pressure
Jeffrey Epstein, a wealthy financier, was known for associating with high-profile figures including Trump, Clinton, and members of European royalty. Epstein was convicted in Florida in 2008 for sexually abusing a minor, and at the time of his death by suicide in 2019, he faced federal sex-trafficking charges in New York. His network and apparent protection from accountability have fueled longstanding conspiracy theories.
Financial institutions connected to Epstein have also faced scrutiny. In 2023, Deutsche Bank and JPMorgan Chase reached multi-million-dollar settlements with survivors of Epstein’s sex-trafficking schemes, while lawsuits continue against Bank of America and BNY Mellon.
Bipartisan Efforts in Congress
Congress is also taking action to release the full archive of government Epstein documents. A bipartisan effort, led by Republican Thomas Massie and Democrat Ro Khanna, has gathered the required 218 signatures to force a House vote. While Speaker Mike Johnson, a Trump supporter, has downplayed the initiative, the vote is expected next week, potentially further intensifying scrutiny of both Clinton and Trump.
Political and Public Implications
The renewed focus on Epstein-related emails places Trump, Clinton, and high-profile financial institutions under the microscope, reigniting public debate over accountability, influence, and the intersections of wealth, politics, and crime. Trump continues to maintain that he severed ties with Epstein over inappropriate conduct, while Clinton has repeatedly denied knowledge of Epstein’s abuses.
