Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has criticized US President Donald Trump’s threat of military action in Nigeria, saying Africa did not invade America when a Black man was killed by US police.
Soludo made the remarks on Sunday, stressing that Nigeria’s security challenges extend beyond religious conflicts. He argued that Trump’s claim of military intervention to “protect Christians in Nigeria” distorts the real issues on the ground.
The governor emphasized that any foreign assistance should come through formal requests for military support, technology, or equipment, rather than external threats or invasion. He added that it would be equally unreasonable for African nations to threaten the United States over incidents of racial violence.
“I am not quite sure if you have policemen killing some blacks. I remember the #BlackLivesMatter protests, and somebody would say maybe Africa should go and invade America because blacks are being killed? I’m not quite sure,” Soludo said.
He called for substantive dialogue by the Nigerian government to address security concerns and for accurate presentation of facts to the international community.
