Bengaluru, October 27, 2025 — Two police officials from Bengaluru’s DJ Halli police station have been suspended after a woman lodged a complaint accusing them of cheating, criminal intimidation, and sexual harassment, authorities confirmed on Monday.
The suspended officers are Inspector Sunil H B and Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Prakash, both attached to DJ Halli. The suspension follows the filing of a formal complaint by a local beautician, who alleged misconduct by the officers over an extended period.
Allegations Against Inspector Sunil
According to the complaint, approximately a year ago, Inspector Sunil allegedly approached the woman under the pretext of assisting her in a financial dispute case. He reportedly obtained her contact number and began messaging her, cultivating a friendship.
The woman claimed that Sunil invited her to his flat in Peenya, where he gained her trust. Subsequently, he allegedly booked a hotel room and established physical relations with her, fraudulently presenting it as part of a promise of marriage. Over the following months, the woman said Sunil began avoiding her, leading her to realize she had been cheated.
Allegations Against ASI Prakash
In addition to the claims against Sunil, the complaint also implicated ASI Prakash. The woman alleged that Prakash demanded sexual favours from her, further intensifying the severity of the accusations against the two officers.
Legal Action and Investigation
Following the complaint, a case has been registered against both officials under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:
- Section 351(2): Criminal intimidation
- Section 69: Sexual intercourse by deceitful means
- Section 75(1): Sexual harassment
A senior police officer confirmed that all allegations are currently under investigation, with officers from the Peenya police station tasked with conducting a thorough probe into the matter.
Suspension and Administrative Response
Both Inspector Sunil and ASI Prakash have been placed under suspension pending the outcome of the investigation. The move reflects the police department’s commitment to taking allegations of misconduct seriously, particularly when they involve abuse of power and authority.
Authorities have assured that the investigation will proceed in a transparent and unbiased manner, with the aim of bringing clarity to the allegations and holding the accused accountable if the charges are proven.
Context and Broader Implications
Incidents involving police misconduct, particularly those involving sexual harassment and abuse of power, have increasingly come under public scrutiny in recent years. Bengaluru, being one of India’s major urban centers, has seen heightened awareness around such cases, with victims encouraged to file complaints and authorities urged to respond promptly.
The suspension of two officers from the same police station is considered significant, as it highlights both the seriousness of the allegations and the willingness of the Bengaluru police administration to act swiftly.
As investigations continue, public and media attention is expected to remain high, given the nature of the accusations and the positions held by the accused within the police force.
Authorities have also emphasized the importance of supporting victims and ensuring that they have access to legal and psychological assistance during the inquiry process.
Next Steps
Police officials have stated that the investigation will involve interrogation of the accused, collection of evidence, and examination of communications between the complainant and the officers, among other procedures.
Once the probe is complete, the police department will determine the appropriate disciplinary or legal action, which could include criminal prosecution depending on the findings.
The case underscores the ongoing challenges in addressing allegations of misconduct within law enforcement agencies and reinforces the need for robust internal accountability mechanisms.
