The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the resumption of train services on the Warri-Itakpe corridor following the derailment near Agbor, Delta State, on Sunday.
Two suspects, 27-year-old Mudansuru Mutari and 39-year-old Blorie Kokori, were arrested on November 4, 2025, near Kilometer 208 before Abraka, Delta State, by the NRC Police Command in collaboration with local security agents. Preliminary investigations and confessional statements indicate they tampered with rail components, including fasteners and clips, which caused the derailment.
NRC Managing Director, Kayode Opeifa, described the act as “economic sabotage and a grave threat to national security” and emphasized that the suspects will face the full weight of the law. He also commended the swift response of the Railway Police and local security networks.
The damaged portion of the track was restored and re-railed on Sunday, November 2, following a thorough safety inspection. Services officially resumed on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.
Opeifa announced plans to enhance railway security through advanced surveillance, technology deployment, and strengthened community partnerships, reaffirming NRC’s commitment to safety and reliable service.
