Udenwa, Ihedioha, Others Raise Over N219 Million for ADC in Imo

Former Imo Governors Chief Achike Udenwa and Chief Emeka Ihedioha, along with other party leaders and members, have successfully raised N219.7 million for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Imo State.

The fundraising effort took place during the party’s stakeholders’ meeting in Owerri on Tuesday, where prominent party figures gathered to strengthen the ADC’s position ahead of the 2027 elections.

Udenwa Optimistic About ADC’s Prospects

In his speech, Chief Achike Udenwa, a former governor of Imo, described the ADC as the leading opposition party in the state. He emphasized that the funds raised would be used to bolster the party’s operations and activities throughout Imo, with a particular focus on preparations for the upcoming elections.

Udenwa expressed confidence that the ADC could challenge the dominance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at both the state and national levels.

“We may be the underdogs, but we’ll put the ruling party in their place after the elections. We will uproot the APC,” Udenwa declared, rallying the party faithful in the room.

Ihedioha Calls for Continued Support

Former Governor Emeka Ihedioha also took the stage to commend Prof. James Okoroma, the state Chairman of the ADC, and his management team for their dedication and hard work. He urged the party members to continue offering their support as they work towards strengthening the party and preparing for the 2027 general elections.

Ihedioha, known for his strong political presence in Imo, reiterated the importance of ADC’s success, stressing that the party’s success would require a united and concerted effort from all stakeholders.

Okoroma Focuses on Future Challenges

Prof. James Okoroma, the ADC’s Imo State Chairman, also addressed the meeting. He expressed optimism for the party’s future, noting that the gathering was an opportunity to assess the challenges ahead and strategize for victory in the 2027 General Elections.

Okoroma charged party members with the responsibility of unseating the APC from power, emphasizing that it was not just an electoral goal but a “generational duty.”

“We will remove them from power; it is a generational duty. It will not be easy, but we will do it; it is a constitutional responsibility,” Okoroma boldly stated, calling on ADC supporters to remain steadfast in their commitment.

New Members Join ADC

In addition to the financial boost, the party also welcomed several new members who joined the ADC from other political parties. Among the new entrants was Chief Paul Mbadiwe, the son of the late Kingsley Mbadiwe, a former Minister of Aviation during Nigeria’s First Republic. The ADC also welcomed chieftains from the Labour Party and other notable political figures.
