Umahi Says Biafra Agitation Unnecessary Amid Southeast Integration Under Tinubu

Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has declared that calls for a separate Biafran state are no longer justified, citing increased integration of the South-East into Nigeria’s national development under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking during an inspection of federal projects in the region, Umahi highlighted the reduction of marginalisation that once fueled separatist sentiments. He praised ongoing and completed infrastructure projects, including the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway, Owerri–Onitsha Expressway, Section 2B of the Second Niger Bridge, and the Enugu–Abakaliki Road, collectively worth hundreds of billions of naira.

“There will be no need for Biafra again,” Umahi stated, noting that South-East residents are now “comfortable” and “very happy” with the current administration. He emphasised that political relevance should be pursued strategically rather than through agitation or rhetoric.

Umahi also framed the recent defection of the Enugu State governor to the APC as a strategic political move and described the present period as a turning point for the region, crediting President Tinubu with reintegration efforts.
