The Governing Council of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has approved a 60% increase in sundry charges for both fresh and returning students for the 2025/2026 academic session, following extensive negotiations with the Student Union Government (SUG).
In a statement on Saturday, Acting Public Relations Officer Mr. Inya Agha Egwu explained that the approved increment represents a compromise, reduced from the Council’s original proposal of a 100% increase. Under the agreement, the new charges will be payable in two installments over the two semesters to ease the financial burden on parents and guardians.
The decision was reached during a meeting attended by SUG leaders from the Nsukka and Enugu campuses, including the SUG Presidents, Speakers of the SUG Legislative Arms, the SUG Senate President, and members of the University Management.
Negotiations began in December 2025, with student leaders initially advocating for a 30% increment, citing comparable fees at other universities and the urgent need for infrastructure improvements at UNN. The Council had initially proposed a 100% increase, later reducing it to 90% before finally agreeing to the 60% increment.
The University confirmed that accommodation fees will remain unchanged for the 2025/2026 session and reaffirmed its commitment to student welfare, dialogue, and institutional development. A detailed breakdown of the revised charges by faculty and level is expected to be released in the coming days.
