Actress and singer Vee Iye has shared her frustrations with societal pressure surrounding marriage as she approaches her 30th birthday.

In a candid TikTok video, Vee recounted a recent conversation with a married friend who asked only about her marital status, ignoring her career and wellbeing.

“Nobody ever mentally prepared me for the number of conversations I’d have as a woman turning 30,” Vee said. She explained that the friend, who had relocated abroad, felt compelled to ask, “When are you getting married?”

Vee expressed her irritation at such questions, emphasizing the disconnect from reality given Nigeria’s economic challenges. “I’m trying to focus on work and what’s next for me. Husband? Marriage? Children? I think not,” she stated.

She clarified that she isn’t against marriage or starting a family but stressed that the timeline isn’t in her control.
