Vice President CP Radhakrishnan on Thursday called upon India’s youth to embrace responsibility and integrity, describing them as the “custodians of the nation’s future.” In his New Year’s message, he urged young people to take five pledges aimed at personal growth, ethical conduct, and nation-building. These included shunning all forms of addiction, using technology responsibly, focusing on physical and mental well-being, upholding constitutional values, integrity and social harmony, and contributing selflessly to India’s progress.
Five Pledges for a Stronger Nation
Addressing the challenges and opportunities facing young Indians, Radhakrishnan emphasized that a life free from drugs and addictions allows individuals to cultivate discipline, clarity, and purpose. He stressed that ethical and mindful use of technology can serve as a powerful tool for innovation and inclusive development, enabling youth to become proactive participants in the country’s advancement.
“The youth are the torchbearers of our nation’s aspirations,” he said. “They must embrace responsibility, uphold ethical principles, and commit to the holistic development of society. Their choices today will shape India’s future tomorrow.”
Reflecting on 2025: A Year of Progress
Radhakrishnan reflected on the achievements of 2025, describing it as a year marked by renewed confidence, collective resolve, and national pride. He highlighted key milestones, noting that India strengthened its sovereignty, security, and global standing across multiple domains.
He praised the armed forces for Operation Sindoor, which demonstrated India’s determination to protect its citizens and deliver justice against threats to national security. “The operation sent a strong message to terrorists and their sponsors that any threat to our sovereignty will be met with firm and resolute action,” he said.
In the legislative arena, Radhakrishnan pointed to historic parliamentary actions that advanced India’s journey toward Viksit Bharat, alongside commemorations such as the 150th year of Vande Mataram, reflecting the nation’s unity and collective identity.
Achievements in Science, Technology, and Space
The Vice President also highlighted India’s progress in science, technology, and space exploration. Under the leadership of ISRO, the successful SPADEX mission showcased satellite docking capabilities, while the LVM 3-M6 launchdemonstrated the country’s growing heavy-lift capacity. The year also saw Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla reach the International Space Station, marking a major milestone in India’s human spaceflight ambitions.
“These accomplishments strengthen India’s position as a global hub of innovation and reflect the talent, dedication, and vision of our youth and scientific community,” Radhakrishnan said.
Sporting Triumphs Bring National Pride
Sports achievements were another highlight of the year, he noted. India’s Men’s Cricket Team lifted the ICC Champions Trophy, while the Women’s Cricket Team created history by winning the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup for the first time. These successes, according to Radhakrishnan, not only elevated national pride but also inspired young athletes to pursue excellence in every field.
Message to the Youth
Radhakrishnan’s message was rooted in the belief that personal discipline, ethical conduct, and social responsibilityare essential for a vibrant democracy. By taking the five pledges, youth can play a transformative role in nation-building, whether through public service, scientific innovation, sports, or cultural contributions.
“India’s progress depends on the energy, creativity, and integrity of its young citizens. By staying committed to ethical practices, physical and mental well-being, and selfless service, the youth can help India achieve its vision of a developed and inclusive nation,” he said.
He concluded with a call for youth to embrace their role as custodians of the nation’s future, reminding them that each choice—personal, professional, or civic—contributes to India’s collective destiny.
