VIDEO: Bandits Attack Niger Police Checkpoint Two Days After Kasuwar Daji Massacre

Barely two days after the deadly Kasuwar Daji market massacre, suspected bandits reportedly on motorcycles attacked a police checkpoint in New Kalli, Wawa Ward, on January 4, 2026.

According to SaharaReporters, the assailants set parts of the facility on fire, looted officers’ belongings, and destroyed farm produce, although no casualties were reported. Photos show the building riddled with bullets, with residents holding spent cartridges.

The Niger State Police Command described the location as a border patrol nipping point along the Borgu axis. Police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun said security operatives engaged the attackers in a gun battle and successfully repelled them, though the facility sustained fire damage. Reinforcements were later deployed, and normalcy was restored.

The attack comes after the Kasuwar Daji market massacre, which left around 40 dead and many others, including children and elderly women, abducted in the same local government area.
