Why I Dumped PDP – Rivers Speaker, Amaewhule

The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, has officially declared his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing divisions within his former party as the main reason.

Amaewhule made the announcement on Friday during plenary, alongside 15 other lawmakers who also joined the APC. He emphasized his commitment to promptly formalize his APC membership.

“Distinguished colleagues, very happily, let me announce that your Speaker, Rt. Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule, has decided—and has indeed written to my ward chairman—about my decision to leave the PDP,” he said.

“APC is my new party. I will do all that is needed to ensure that my APC membership card is issued in no time. As I speak today, I am a proud member of the All Progressives Congress,” Amaewhule added.

He expressed his support for President Bola Tinubu, highlighting the administration’s efforts on security and inclusion:

“Mr. President is doing so much for this country. He is tackling security challenges and has shown love to Rivers State. He is helping Rivers people to be part of the governance of this country. I am delighted to be part of the APC so that we can support Mr. President from within the party. But the major reason for leaving the PDP is because of the divisions within the party,” he concluded.
