The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has warned that neither he nor his loyalists will be used as bargaining chips amid the ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking in Abuja on Friday during a meeting with concerned PDP stakeholders, Wike expressed concern over the internal turmoil within the party and called for a return to due process. His comments followed a ruling by the Abuja Federal High Court that halted the PDP’s national convention, originally scheduled for November 15–16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
“Let me be clear: nobody, and I mean nobody, will use us to negotiate for anything. We are part of this party and have sacrificed for it. But we will not allow anyone to trade us off for personal gain,” Wike said.
He added that those advocating for internal reforms are motivated by the desire for the PDP to uphold fairness, respect for the law, and due process, rather than personal ambition.
Justice James Omotosho, who delivered the judgment, upheld a case filed by three aggrieved PDP members and directed the party to resolve its internal disputes. The court emphasized that the PDP must issue the mandatory 21-day notice before holding its convention.
The ruling marks a significant legal and procedural hurdle for the party as it seeks to conduct its leadership elections, highlighting ongoing tensions within its ranks.
