Wizkid Sparks Reactions After Hinting at Presidential Ambition, Unveils Political Party

Nigerian music superstar Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has ignited widespread reactions online after hinting at plans to venture into Nigerian politics.

A video that surfaced on social media on January 8, 2026, shows the award-winning singer suggesting he may run for the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The clip quickly went viral, drawing mixed reactions from fans and commentators.

The video emerged shortly after Wizkid achieved another major milestone in his career, becoming the first African artist to surpass 10 billion streams on Spotify, a feat that further cemented his global influence.

What stirred even more conversation was Wizkid’s revelation that he would not align himself with Nigeria’s established political parties such as the APC, PDP, or Labour Party. Instead, the singer announced the creation of a new political movement, which he named the Wizkid Political Party (WPP).

In the footage, recorded in a casual and playful atmosphere among friends and family, Wizkid could be heard saying:

“Wizkid Political Party. WPP. I am running for presidency in the year 20…”

He stopped short of mentioning a specific election year, ending the statement humorously and leaving many Nigerians wondering whether the announcement was a serious political declaration or a lighthearted joke.

Despite the uncertainty, the video has sparked intense debate online, with supporters praising his confidence while others dismissed the move as entertainment-driven banter.
