The Gurugram Police have arrested a woman and her alleged lover for attacking her husband with a sharp, axe-like tool, leaving him seriously injured, officials said on Thursday.
Attack Details
The incident came to light when police received reports of a man critically injured near VPS School in Khoh village. A team rushed to the spot and found the victim, Shiv Shankar, being treated at ESIC Hospital in Faridabad. Shankar, originally from Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, works in Manesar and lives in Khoh with his wife Poonam.
Police stated that Shankar was unfit to give a statement during the initial investigation at the hospital.
Plot Behind the Attack
According to the investigation, the attack was premeditated. Shankar had recently discovered that his wife Poonam (44)was having an affair with her colleague, Mankhush alias Mintu (25). This revelation reportedly triggered frequent domestic disputes between the couple.
On Tuesday, Poonam lured her husband to the Jharna temple. While returning on a scooter, a man allegedly pushed the vehicle near VPS School, causing them to fall. Mankhush then held Shankar from behind while Poonam struck him several times on the face with an axe-like tool, after which the duo fled the scene.
Arrests and Charges
Following a complaint filed by the victim’s sister-in-law, police registered a case of attempt to murder at the IMT Manesar police station. Both accused were arrested on Thursday.
A Gurugram Police spokesperson said:
“During interrogation, the accused confessed to having a relationship for the past six months. They claimed the plan to eliminate Shankar was hatched following escalating domestic disputes over their affair.”
Shankar continues to receive treatment for his injuries, which are reported to be serious but stable.
The police have stated that the investigation is ongoing, and further action will be taken under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
