The Executive Chairman of the Yobe State Internal Revenue Service (YSIRS), Alhaji Suleiman Bakura Jibrin, has called on the Yobe State House of Assembly to take action to curb revenue leakages by ensuring all revenue-generating agencies, including local governments, remit funds directly into the agency’s account.
He made the appeal during YSIRS’ 2026 budget defence before the House Standing Committee on Finance and Appropriation, highlighting that the state loses significant revenue because some agencies fail to operate a single treasury account for collections.
Despite these challenges, Jibrin noted that the agency has generated over ₦12 billion from January to September, nearly reaching its ₦14 billion target under the 2025 Finance Bill.
In related proceedings, other state entities—including the Ministries of Finance, Budget, Youth and Sports, the Fiscal Responsibility Board, the State and Local Governments Audit Department, and the Audit Service Board—also appeared before the House to defend their 2026 budget proposals.
The Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chiroma Buba Mashio, assured that the lawmakers remain committed to transparency and accountability in implementing the 2026 budget.
