Yobe Gets New Livestock Development Commissioner, Head of Service, Others

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the state’s public service for more effective governance and improved service delivery.

The governor made the pledge on Tuesday in Damaturu during the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed officials, including the Commissioner for Livestock Development, Hon. Yerima Lawan Mahmud; the Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa Shehu; two Special Advisers, Mohammed Bukar Ibrahim and Yahaya Barde; as well as the Statistician-General of the State, Abdulrahman Malik.

Charging the new Livestock Development Commissioner, Governor Buni urged him to leverage his experience to transform the newly established ministry and fulfill its mandate.

“I wish to reassure livestock farmers that government will invest heavily in livestock development — including the establishment of veterinary clinics, provision of water, development of fodder banks, and vaccination against trans-boundary diseases — to harness Yobe’s rich livestock potential and make the state Nigeria’s leading livestock production hub,” he said.

Addressing the new Head of Service, the governor tasked him with revitalizing the civil service to enhance productivity and ensure efficient public administration.

“You are encouraged to promote and reward hard work without sentiments, foster teamwork, ensure proper delegation of duties, and uphold transparency and due process in government operations,” Buni advised.

He also expressed confidence that the appointments of Mohammed Bukar Ibrahim and Yahaya Inuwa Barde as Special Advisers would strengthen communication between the government and the people.

“You are advised to use your grassroots connections to project the people’s interests so they are reflected in government policies and programmes,” he added.

Governor Buni further noted that the establishment of the State Bureau of Statistics was to ensure that government decisions are guided by accurate, data-driven insights for efficient planning and minimal waste.
