Yobe State University Appoints New Vice-Chancellor and Registrar

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has approved the appointment of Professor Mohammed Bashir Tahir as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of Yobe State University, Damaturu.

The announcement was made by the University’s Chairman of the Governing Council, Alhaji Ahmed Mustapha Goniri, following a recommendation from the Council during an extraordinary meeting held on January 15, 2026.

Professor Tahir, a Professor of General Surgery and Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons, previously served as Medical Director of the Ultra-Modern Police Hospital in Damaturu.

In the same meeting, the Governing Council also approved the appointment of Mallam Isa Audu Dallari as the university’s substantive Registrar. Mallam Dallari, who currently serves as Director of Administration at Yobe State University, was recommended by the Selection Committee in line with the Yobe State University Law, 2006 (as amended).
