Yoruba Group Warns of Danger if Tinubu Fails to Investigate Matawalle Allegations

The Odua People’s Assembly (OPA) has raised alarm over allegations linking Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle to banditry, urging the Federal Government to launch an immediate investigation.

In a statement by its Chairman, Richard Olatunji Kayode, the Yoruba group described the claims as “disturbing” and potentially damaging to national security and public trust. Kayode emphasized that in a country already battling widespread insecurity, any suggestion of collusion between a high-ranking official and criminal elements is “alarming and unacceptable.”

The Assembly pointed to a recently surfaced video featuring notorious bandit leader Bello Turji defending Matawalle, warning that such endorsements could undermine law enforcement and the sacrifices of military personnel.

OPA demanded Matawalle’s immediate removal from office to restore public confidence and called for a transparent, independent inquiry to address both the allegations against him and systemic issues that allow banditry to thrive.

The group urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and hold public officials accountable, stressing that the fight against insecurity must transcend political affiliations and regional divides to secure the nation’s future.
