The Federal Government has highlighted the crucial role of young Nigerians in driving national transformation under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Speaking at the APC North West Youth Pally in Dutse, Jigawa State, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, said the president has placed “uncommon trust” in the youth by giving them real responsibilities and leadership opportunities.
A statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Malam Rabiu Ibrahim, noted that the government remains committed to youth empowerment through education, job creation, and innovation.
“From cabinet appointments to digital innovation and education reforms, young Nigerians are not just part of the story—they are the drivers of it,” Idris said.
He highlighted key youth-focused achievements, including:
- Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND): ₦116 billion disbursed to over 620,000 students.
- 3MTT Programme: Nearly two million applicants in the drive to create three million digital and technical jobs nationwide.
- Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET): One million Nigerians certified in 25 trades, with 25% already placed in training centers.
The minister also mentioned the Rural Electrification Agency’s Energising Education Programme, which provides uninterrupted electricity to federal universities and teaching hospitals, including Bayero University Kano and Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto, supporting student learning and research.
On economic reforms, Idris highlighted the new Nigeria Tax Act, effective January 2026, which exempts small businesses earning ₦100 million or less from company income and capital gains taxes, enabling young entrepreneurs to reinvest in their ventures.
He also cited initiatives such as MSME Clinics, the iDICE digital economy partnership ($517 million), and Nigeria’s recent Eurobond oversubscription by 400%, noting these as proof of growing global confidence in Nigeria’s economic direction.
The minister urged young Nigerians to avoid fake news and divisive rhetoric, emphasizing that national unity and positive action are key to progress. “Tinubu’s leadership is about giving every Nigerian a fair chance to succeed,” he said.
Idris concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to harnessing youth energy and creativity to drive national renewal and sustainable development.
