9,600 Teachers Register for Competency Test in Jigawa — SUBEB

The Jigawa State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has announced that 9,600 teachers have registered for the state’s upcoming competency test, with the total expected to reach 12,000.

The Board’s Executive Chairman, Professor Haruna Musa, made the disclosure while briefing journalists on preparations for the assessment. He explained that the test aims to identify teachers’ specific training needs, strengthen their skills, and improve learning outcomes across the state.

Professor Haruna noted that over 70% of the registered teachers have never participated in any capacity-building programme since their employment, with some serving for more than 15 years without training.

Following the examination, teachers will be classified into three groups:

  • Group A: Teachers with both knowledge and teaching skills
  • Group B: Teachers with adequate knowledge but insufficient teaching skills
  • Group C: Teachers lacking both knowledge and teaching skills

This classification, Professor Haruna said, will enable SUBEB to design targeted training programmes to enhance professionalism and elevate education standards in Jigawa State, aligning with Governor Umar Namadi’s “12-Point Agenda” and the government’s continued investment in educational infrastructure.
