The Coalition of Registered Political Parties (CRPP) has urged Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo to take urgent action against rising kidnappings in the state, warning that residents are being impoverished by ransom demands ranging from ₦20 million to ₦100 million and above.
The call was made by CRPP Chairman Samson Isibor during a recent awards ceremony in Benin City, highlighting the worsening insecurity that has left Edo people living in fear.
“The insecurity situation in Edo State is alarming. Kidnappers and other criminals have taken over bushes, highways, and farms, terrorizing residents even at their homes,” Isibor said.
He stressed that Edo, already one of the poorest states in Nigeria, is being further devastated as kidnappers extort money from citizens struggling with unemployment and the high cost of living.
“Governor Okpebholo must fulfill his election promises and rescue us from these criminal elements. After one year in office, our lives remain unchanged: food is expensive, jobs are scarce, and thousands of graduates are roaming the streets seeking employment,” Isibor added.
The CRPP’s statement calls for immediate government intervention to curb kidnappings and restore safety and economic stability to Edo State.
