Several areas within the Federal Capital Territory have been plunged into darkness following a maintenance operation at the Karu 132/33kV transmission station on Wednesday.
In a statement, the spokesperson for the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Ndidi Mbah, announced that the outage would last throughout the day as engineers work to rectify a critical fault.
The maintenance exercise has disrupted bulk power supply to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), affecting communities such as Jikwoyi, Orozo, Kurudu, Karshi, Navy Estate, and surrounding areas.
“The exercise is to enable the TCN maintenance crew to decouple and replace the defective 33kV Feeder K2 line isolator,” the statement read.
TCN added that electricity supply to the affected locations will be restored immediately after the repair work is completed.
