The Imo State Police Command has announced the arrest of five individuals accused of assaulting a woman, Mrs. Ndidiamaka Agu, for assisting police with an ongoing investigation in her community.
Police spokesperson DSP Henry Okoye said the arrests were made on the orders of the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, who called for immediate action after the incident came to public attention.
According to Okoye, the command was alerted by a viral video showing Mrs. Agu being attacked in Emekuku, Owerri North Local Government Area, by several individuals, including one suspect who remains at large.
Acting on the commissioner’s directive, operatives of the X-Squad Unit apprehended the suspects identified as Onyekachi Njoku, Chiazor Osuji, Chukwuma Iwuala, Eugene Njoku, and Emmanuel Njoku.
The police spokesperson confirmed that the arrested suspects have confessed to participating in the assault. However, the sixth suspect, Onyedikachi Njoku, is still on the run, and efforts are ongoing to capture him.
“The Commissioner of Police condemns the assault in its entirety and reiterates that intimidation of citizens who lawfully assist the police will not be tolerated. The arrested suspects will be charged to court soon,” Okoye stated.
