Bandits Kill Two, Injure Vigilante in Kwara Community Attack

Two people were killed and a vigilante member was injured on Tuesday during an attempted bandit attack on Eruku community in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.

DAILY POST gathered that several residents were also reportedly abducted in the violent invasion.

The victims were identified as Aderemi and Tunde Asaba Ajayi, both of whom died from gunshot wounds inflicted by the attackers.

In a statement confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, said the attack occurred around 6:00 p.m.

According to the police, the Divisional Police Officer in Eruku, alongside operatives and local vigilantes, responded immediately after hearing gunshots from the outskirts of the community—a move that forced the bandits to flee into the bush.

A search of the area led to the discovery of Aderemi, who was fatally shot inside Christ Apostolic Church, Oke Isegun. Ajayi was found dead in the bush, also from gunshot injuries. A vigilante operative, Segun Alaja, sustained gunshot wounds and was taken to ECWA Hospital, Eruku, for treatment.

The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, praised the rapid response from both the police and the vigilante group. He assured residents that security forces remain committed to pursuing and eliminating criminal elements terrorizing communities.

The police command said further updates will be shared as investigations continue.
