Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, has assured Nigerians that fuel queues are now a thing of the past, promising uninterrupted petrol supply throughout the Christmas season and beyond.
Speaking after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Abuja, Dangote said the refinery is ready to deliver 50 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) daily, exceeding national consumption. By February, the refinery is expected to produce 15–20 million litres more than Nigeria needs, enabling fuel exports to neighbouring countries.
Dangote also highlighted plans to expand refinery capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day by 2028, surpassing India’s Reliance refinery. The Group will also scale up urea production to 12 million tonnes annually, positioning Nigeria as a leading global fertilizer producer.
He attributed recent fuel price declines to increased competition and reduced smuggling, stressing that the refinery business is a long-term national investment.
On logistics, Dangote flagged congestion at major ports and revealed plans to develop West Africa’s largest deep-sea port at Olokola, expected to be completed in two to two-and-a-half years.
Dangote endorsed the naira-for-crude initiative, urging wealthy Nigerians to invest in industries rather than luxury spending to drive sustainable industrialisation. He emphasized that domestic investment will attract foreign capital and strengthen the economy.
