Businessman and 2027 presidential hopeful, Dr. Gbenga Hashim, paid a condolence visit to Mrs. Adebola Awolowo, widow of the late Segun Awolowo, offering prayers and comfort to the grieving family.
Hashim described the atmosphere in the Awolowo home as “heavy with grief” and recalled releasing a heartfelt tribute titled Good Night My Brother and Friend, Segun Awolowo, shortly after learning of his passing while in Madrid.
He highlighted Awolowo’s energy, optimism, and dedication to his work during a visit months before his death, noting how Awolowo proudly introduced him to his senior management team. Hashim also shared Awolowo’s parting message: “Gbenga, please keep standing for Nigeria. Among all of us, you’re the one I know has the capacity to stand.”
Describing Awolowo as “a rare gem—humble, thoughtful and deeply patriotic,” Hashim emphasized that his legacy was built through character, service, and hard work, not just his famous surname. He expressed gratitude for their two-decade-long friendship and lamented its untimely end.
Segun Awolowo’s death continues to draw widespread tributes across political, business, and social circles as funeral preparations proceed.
