“I Can Practise Any Religion I Choose” – Jamiu Azeez Responds to Conversion Rumours

Nollywood actor and filmmaker Jamiu Azeez has addressed online criticism and speculation surrounding claims that he converted from Islam to Christianity.

The controversy followed a viral video showing the actor attending a church service dressed in a white outfit, which sparked reactions on social media. Some commentators questioned his faith, while others suggested he should change his name, prompting widespread debate online.

Reacting on Sunday, January 4, Azeez took to his social media platforms to respond to the backlash. He shared screenshots of messages and comments he received, describing the reactions as intrusive and unnecessary.

The actor clarified that he never announced a change in religion and stressed that his faith is a personal matter that should not be subjected to public judgment.

“It’s only in Nigeria people are so bothered about another person’s life,” he wrote. “Imagine telling a man in his 40s how to live his life. I never came out to say I have converted. I can practise any religion I choose, and that should not be anyone’s problem.”

Azeez also injected humour into his response, saying he could wear any religious or traditional attire he pleased, further emphasizing his right to personal freedom.

His comments have since generated mixed reactions online, with many supporters backing his stance on religious freedom and privacy.
