‘My Life Is in Danger’: Abuja Businessman Alleges Delta Monarch Plotting to Kill Him

An Abuja-based businessman, Anthony Anamonye, has sounded the alarm over alleged assassination attempts, accusing Ezedinmbu Nkebakwu III, the traditional ruler of Ugboba in Delta State, of orchestrating threats against his life.

In an interview, Anamonye said the threats began after he confronted the monarch over what he described as illegal coal mining activities allegedly involving Mosra Energy Ltd and the traditional ruler.

“Since my confrontation with the Ugboba traditional ruler, there have been multiple threats and attempts on my life,” Anamonye said. “The danger comes because I exposed illegal coal mining colluding with the monarch.”

He alleged that the threats intensified during the Yuletide season when he visited Delta State, narrowly escaping attacks both in Abuja and in Ugboba, prompting him to relocate his building materials from the area.

The situation reportedly worsened on January 16, 2026, when a driver, Mr. Emeka Maha, sent to move Anamonye’s building materials, narrowly escaped an attack by vigilante members loyal to the monarch. Anamonye claimed the attack was designed to lure him back to the community for a clandestine assassination.

“My life is in danger, and my fundamental rights—including freedom of movement—are being seriously threatened,” he stated. He further alleged that the monarch recruited family members and some police officers to execute the plot.

Anamonye specifically named Agbi Babade of the Ogwashi-Uku Area Command in Delta State as one of the officers involved in spying on his Abuja residence and attempting to seize an affidavit he filed with the Brekete Family Human Rights Radio and Television.

“I am calling on civil society organizations and security agencies to be vigilant. If anything happens to me, Ezedinmbu Nkebakwu and his vigilante group must be held responsible,” he warned.

Efforts to reach the traditional ruler, the vigilante group, and the Delta State Police Command for comments were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
