Lagos, Nigeria – In a renewed effort to maintain road safety and public order, a Lagos State task force has seized 64 commercial motorcycles during a large-scale enforcement operation.
According to Mrs. Bolanle Ogunlola, Director of Public Affairs at the Ministry of Transportation, the operation took place on Monday, October 27, targeting not only illegal commercial motorcycles but also street traders, unauthorized park operators, and other unlawful activities across major highways and inner roads on the Lagos Mainland.
“The clean-up exercise, which commenced around 11:00 a.m., covered key locations including Ebute Metta Axis, Gbagada-Oshodi Expressway, Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Lagos-Badagry Expressway, and Surulere Local Government/LCDA areas, among other restricted routes,” Ogunlola said.
She added that enforcement teams combed major roads such as Apapa Road, Murtala Mohammed Way, Herbert Macaulay Road, Western Avenue, Iganmu Roundabout, Eric Moore Road, Bode Thomas Road, Babs Animashaun, Ogunlana Drive, and additional streets including Itire Link Bridge, Muyiwa Opaleye Street, Odo-Olowu, Gbagada-Anthony Expressway, Ikorodu Road, 2nd Rainbow, and Alakija.
Ogunlola emphasized that the seizure of the motorcycles helped restore order and ensured free vehicular movement in affected areas. She also reaffirmed the Lagos State government’s commitment to sustaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment, in line with the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018, which prohibits commercial motorcycles on certain highways and major routes across the state.
