Tottenham Hotspur have expressed their full support for defender Destiny Udogie after reports emerged that the Italy international was allegedly threatened with a gun by a football agent earlier this year.
BBC Sport revealed that the incident took place in London on 6 September, involving an unnamed Premier League player who has since been confirmed as Udogie. Another man was also reportedly blackmailed and threatened during the same confrontation. Thankfully, no one was injured.
According to the Metropolitan Police, a 31-year-old man was arrested two days later on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent, blackmail, and driving without a licence. The suspect has been released on bail while investigations continue.
In a statement on Tuesday, Tottenham said:
“We have been providing support for Destiny and his family since the incident and will continue to do so. Given this is a legal matter, we cannot comment any further.”
Udogie, 22, joined Spurs from Udinese in 2022 for £15 million, initially returning to the Italian club on loan before becoming part of Tottenham’s first team the following season. Since then, he has become a regular fixture under manager Ange Postecoglou, making 76 appearances for the North London side.
The left-back, who has earned 12 caps for Italy, has featured 10 times for Spurs so far this season, including in Tuesday’s 4-0 Champions League victory over Copenhagen.
As police inquiries continue, the club and player are focusing on ensuring Udogie’s safety and well-being, while maintaining professionalism on and off the pitch.
